Vinted buy-to-let guide

Part 1: How to get the right products

There are several possible strategies to buy products for resale. Visit first technique is to buy cheaper products directly from the Vinted platform and resell them at a higher price.

Buy and sell Vinted

Technique A: buy cheaper products directly from Vinted (Resell)

This technique involves looking for products that are sold for less than their normal resale price, and there are many such products on Vinted. There are as many possibilities as there are brands available on the clothing market (clothes, accessories, bags, shoes), combined with the number of sellers on Vinted.

How to find these products on Vinted

To begin with, you need to know that Vinted works like a publication wall (a bit like Facebook). This means that when you open the application, from the HomeYou'll see the news feed appear, with all the new articles added as you go along, unfiltered.

The Home tab contains several listings:

  • The products " recommended for you
  • The favouritesthe collections
  • The wardrobes other sellers highlighted
  • Le brand listing you have chosen to follow, the articles popular.

To find products for resale, use targeted research, but it is also possible to find products among those recommended by Vinted. This is simply because Vinted's artificial intelligence suggests products that are similar to previous purchases.

To carry out a targeted searchgo to the Search.

You have several filter optionsHere's what you need to play with to find good products:

  • Brand save a search by brandthe tick should turn green as shown below and read " delete search ".
purchase resale Vinted
  • Sort by always sort by most recent, because bargains appear every day, so you need to see the latest publications on the Vinted wall.
  • Status From satisfactory to new with tags. Personally, I don't recommend using this filter, as the condition of products is relative for each seller and it's better to rely on the photos as well as the price. product description.
  • Category Use only if you want to specialise in a product niche such as Lévis jeans, Ralph Lauren jumpers, Nike shoes. If you don't put it on, you'll have access to all the products available, because bargains are everywhere.
  • Sizes These are best-selling sizes S to L with a big plus for size M in all genres. If you want to focus on men's clothing, select S, M, L, XL. If you are interested in women's clothing, select XS, S, M, L, XL. You can also select Children's sizes.
  • ColourYou can only use it when you are carrying out a specific search related to your niche: select white if you specialise in the resale of white trainers for example.
  • Prices Here too I wouldn't recommend it, because when it comes to bargains, there's no price. You can just as easily buy a 90 euro bag that will sell for 150 euros as a waistcoat for 20 euros that will sell for 65-70.

On the other hand, depending on the niche you choose, the fact of filter your products according to the purchase price you do not wish to exceedThis will enable you to considerably reduce the number of search results and can therefore increase your purchasing efficiency. You can save as many searches as you have product niches.

Choose at least three brands that you like and that are on trend.

In practical terms, the more filters you use, the more your search results will be reduced. Your filter strategy will depend on whether or not you want to specialise in niche products. Selecting only one brand filtered by the most recent results can enable you to become an expert in this brand and to targeted Vinted resale buying.

How do I know if the product is a good deal on a Vinted resale?

When a product seems like a good deal and has just appeared on the Vinted feed, look at the number of views the product has and whether anyone has already contacted the seller. If in 5 minutes, the product already has a ten or so views and 1 or 2 people interestedThe chances are that the product is a bargain.

Here is an example:

purchase resale Vinted

The real nuggets are gone in 5 minutes, sometimes even 2 minutes...

  • Another clue to be taken into account is the type of seller you're dealing with. If it's an experienced salesperson who sells the product, it's a safe bet that he knows what he's doing by selling it at the right price, and that this may already be the case. a product from a Vinted resale purchase.

You can distinguish between experienced salespeople by the number of noticesbut above all by the type of photos in the dressing room. The better the quality, the more you'll be dealing with an experienced salesperson. If this is the case, don't bother, because you'll get little or no negotiation margin.

  • On the other hand, if it's a profile with few reviewsfrom 0 to 50, it is quite possible that the seller does not know the real value of the product that it sells and that it is therefore a great deal. I've already seen products that cost 60-70 euros less than their normal resale price. Can you imagine the margin behind?

NB: For profiles with 0 reviewsof course, you need to be more vigilantbecause they may be false accounts as well as counterfeits. It is better to contact the seller before you buy to ask for more photosof details than to rush.

  • A very good index a reliable seller, but which begins, is when the latter adds several products in a row. We can see that the photos are taken in the same place and we can therefore conclude that this seller is serious and send the products.

How can I become a Vinted brand expert?

To succeed in the Vinted resale market, it's best to focus on a few brands in particular. In order to well you Familiarise yourself with a brand, you need :

  • Follow the brand in the Vinted news feed. To do this, simply search for the brand in the search bar at the very top and click on follow.
purchase resale Vinted
  • Locate then the products with the most favourites. For example, down jackets The North Face are selling very well.
  • Compare prices for the same product. If, for example, you find a down jacket for 20 euros in good/very good condition with photos showing a clean product, whereas you usually see this down jacket for 80 euros, go for it.

Here is an example of the down jacket shown above regarding views and interested members. This item was gone in less than 20 minutes and depending on its actual condition, it could easily be resold for 50-60 euros.

For products shown in good/satisfactory condition :
  • Ask the seller all the necessary questions before buying to avoid unpleasant surprises when the package is opened.
  • Certain defects, such as torn fabrics, the missing logo, cigarette burns, yellow spots, discoloured fabrics are simply avoid.
  • Some novice sellers will put the item in the good condition category when the product has no defects, you can take advantage of this and sometimes even negotiate a price of 5 or 10 euros.
To avoid counterfeit products:
  • The best technique is to choose a product that is selling well and find one or more identical products of the same quality. compare the photos, logos and composition labels.
  • Any item that does not match : logo size, information on the composition label, logo location, font on labels, label size, small clip at the fasteners, colour...
  • Anything that differs from your sample product (ideally you should have a product with proof of purchase to be sure of its authenticity) is a sign of a possible counterfeiting, so I advises against buying this type of product. You can always ask the seller for proof of purchase or more information if you have any doubts.

In concrete terms, the more time you spend on Vinted, the more you'll get the chance to see the world.eye to tell a good deal from a bad one as well as counterfeits. Nugget products sold for less than they cost are the fastest-selling and most sought-after products.

In this article, you will also find all the tips to negotiate the price of products with sellers. I also present another technique herewhich is less well known in the Vinted buy-and-sell market, but which can be used to generate very attractive margins at renovating products.

Technique B: Purchase/resale of products on other platforms

This technique is for those who want to buy products outside Vinted. There are several options.

Option number 1: buy products on other platforms

purchase resale vinted second-hand applications

In addition to Vinted, there are other platforms for selling second-hand products, such as : Le Bon Coin, Vide Dressing (closed since July 2023), Depop, Ebay, Vestiaire Collective, Asos Marketplace, Facebook Marketplace, Grailed (men's fashion), Jaiio

To find the best pricesI'd advise you first and foremost:

Le Bon Coin:

On this platform, which dates back to 2006, you'll find a huge selection of clothes and accessories. Some sellers offer their products on both Vinted and on Le Bon coin and it regularly happens that delivery charges as well as site protection are lower than on Vintedin this case, go to.

In the same way as on Vintedpay attention to notice that the seller holds and send a message to the seller before you buy if you have any doubts about the product or its authenticity and if you wish to negotiate. Although the platform is more general than VintedHere you can find very good deals.

In addition alerts can be configured on the Bon Coin to let you know when an item matches your search (this feature is not available on Vinted without Bot), so don't hesitate to create several to track the brands and types of items you're looking for.

Depop:

This platform was founded in 2011 and acquired by Etsy in 2021. There are plenty of items available here too, from vintage to trendier brandsHere you can find nuggets.

Be careful, however, about the currency used and the location of the product, as you will need to add the VAT if the product is located outside the France and if it costs less than 150$.

In addition delivery charges also have to be added, but you can find sellers who offer free deliverysimply select " free domestic shipping "Click here for the list of products concerned.

Facebook Marketplace:

You can find great deals on Facebook. The major advantage is that you can view products near you and therefore make a direct purchase. This saves you delivery charges and protection. There are some sellers who accept payment via Paypal, Lydia, Paylib and dispatch via a carrier.

If you have confidence in the seller, it's a good good solutionIf not, I'd advise you to avoid it, as it could be a scam.

There are also resale groups for specific brandsYou can search for a group that relates to your brand and follow the various posts. Don't hesitate to negotiate prices especially if it's a personal sale.

Ebay:

The advantage ofEbayis his international outlook. You can find bargains all over the world. Beware of delivery charges. Similarly, being able to bidding on products sold for much less than their original price can help you make good deals and then resell them.

Option number 2: Buying products on sale

purchase resale Vinted purchase products

Buying and reselling products sold out can be an equally interesting strategy. In this case, you'll be looking at the sale of new products taking advantage of an attractive offer from a retailer.
To find good dealsyou have a range of possible sites: Asos, Amazon, Zalando, Spartoo, Farfetch, La Redoute, Place des Tendances, Lafayette Gallery, Brandalley, …

To implement this type of strategy, I always advise you to focus on a few brands in particular so you can tell when you're dealing with a real promotion. Indeed, the discount prices, product discounts are sometimes overused and the original price is inflated to make it look like a discounted price.

To avoid this, simply compare the different prices on Google. You can type in the product reference and see the different prices displayed on Google shopping or use a price comparison as Idealo and/or Dealabs. Before you buy, you can also take a look at whether the product you want is already on sale on Vinted and at what price.

Resale of new products with labels of course sells very well on Vinted, but be careful not to overuse it, as Vinted remains a marketplace for the resale of second-hand items.

What's more, the advantage of buying new items on the various sites mentioned is that you get a return deadline to return products you can't sell (often between 14 and 30 days).

The possibilities with this strategy are infinite.

Option number 3: Buy products via private sales

This strategy is similar to the previous one, but instead of visiting reseller sites, you will be looking at private sales.

Several sites are available, including :

You can follow a brand in particular and know when a private sale about it by creating alerts for you on Privéa.

Offers can be interesting and you also have a return time if you are unable to resell a product.

Option number 4: Buying products from a wholesaler

purchase resale Vinted buy from a wholesaler

This strategy is differentBuying products from a wholesaler means that you will have to buy several products in quantity for resale, with no possibility of return. The advantage of buying in quantity is that you have a low purchase price per unit.

However, even if the unit price is low, you will have to buy a hundred or so products. For example, taking a unit price of 3.50 euros multiplied by 100, the investment will be 350 euros, not including delivery costs. This is quite different from the strategy of buying a few products and reselling them.

Nevertheless, the possible margin can be interesting and using this strategy, you'll experience managing an online shop and get an overview of the status of professional vendor if you haven't been until now.

Here is a list of existing wholesalers for second-hand products :

For new products, There are several sites to choose from, including :

  • Paris Fashion Shop : This site brings together a wide range of private labels for resale. For each brand, you'll find a quantity and an amount to reach before you can place an order. Registration is free, but you need to have an account to view the purchase prices. With so much choice on offer, and in order to choose the best products for women, you can take a look at what's being sold under the name "boutique parisienne" on Vinted. You'll get an overview of current trends and prices. For men, there's a market to be had, as there are few products for men's fashion outside the well-known brands.
  • Ventegros : wholesaler of all types of non-branded clothing and accessories
  • B2Brands : site where you can buy branded clothing
  • Toplook : same principle as the paris fashion shops website

Now that you know how to obtain the products, we'll look at how to manage your business effectively Vinted buying and selling. There are a number of factors to take into account, such as the marginthe turnover of your stock itemsthe quantity of items for sale per week/month and the tax return.

How can I be a good Vinted Buy and Sell manager?

To start with, and to keep track of your sales and stock, I invite you to download this blank Excel file including the various tables below. This will allow you to keep track of all your transactions.

Here's an example:

purchase resale vinted management chart
purchase resale vinted turnover calculation

The 2ᵉ table corresponds to the calculation of your revenuesof your profits excl. VAT and your net profits:

Calculation of sales = sum of all sales prices
Calculation of profit before tax = sum of all margins
Calculation of net profits = sum of all margins - (Turnover*12.8%)

Get into the habit of noting down all the transactions you make so that you know where you stand, your margins and the state of your stock.

Simulation of margins and quantity of products to be sold

Let's look at a few margin simulations to calculate the number of products you need to buy and resell per month to generate sales of €1,000:

purchase resale vinted margin simulation

Logically, the higher the margin, less you need buy and resell products.

In the previous simulation, we were first talking about revenues and not net profits. So let's look at another example, taking into account examples of products, from the selling priceof the margin as well as 12.8% tax.

Purchase resale vinted profit calculation

This example shows the difference between sales : 2035 euros and the profit we make before tax : 1,000 euros.

To calculate the net profit, 12.8% must be deducted from the turnover, i.e. 2035 * 12.8% = 260.48 euros.

The net profit will therefore be 1000 - 260.5 = . 739.5 euros
This means that to earn €1,000, you need to increase the number of products you sell.

In this example, the number of products sold was 33. The average margin was : 28 euros

To make a profit of 1,000 euros, you can play on both the margin and the quantity of products you sell.

To make things easier for you, Here is a simulation of the number of products to be sold with an average margin of 28 euros.

Vinted buy-sell net profit calculation

In this simulation, total sales are 2795 euros for a net profit of 1,370 euros.
By deducting the 12.8% of tax from turnover, we find: 2795*12.8% = 358 euros
Net profit is therefore 1012 euros. The quantity of products sold to achieve this profit is 46.

For an average margin of 28 euros on each product you sell, multiplied by a quantity of 46, you reach our target of 1,000 euros net. The more you increase your margin per product, the more you reduce the quantity of products you need to achieve your objective. But be careful to calculate the net amount.

In addition, depending on the status you choose for your business, the percentage of tax payable may vary (see last section: tax and Vinted).

Inventory management

To manage your business on a month-to-month basis, you need to ensure that a turnover to have products to sell every week.

Here's an idea of the number of products you need to buy and sell each week. For this simulation, we'll keep our quantity of 46 products and our average margin from 28 euros per product.

We have 30/31 days in the month, so for the example we'll take 30.
Calculating the number of products to be sold per day, we find 46/30 = 1.5 products to be sold per day.
We then multiply 1.5 * 7 days in the week = 10.5.

Naturally, we'll need to round off this quantity, so we'll find 11 products to sell per week on average to reach our end-of-month target.

So, by selling 2 products a day with an average margin of 28 euros, you're guaranteed to reach your target of 1,000 euros in earnings.

Of course, the above examples and simulations are relative, because you can choose to sell only occasionally with high margins and low quantities, or very often with low margins but high quantities.

Tax and Vinted

purchase resale vinted taxes

You should be aware that all transactions carried out on Vinted, Le bon coin or other sites are reported to the tax authorities. This does not necessarily mean that you will be taxed. However, if the exchanges are computerised, as is the case with Vinted, it is preferable not to try to hide your income.

Vinted communicates your transactions in all cases from the moment you exceed 20 transactions and/or 3,000 euros in turnover.

To ensure that you are in compliance, you have several options:

Selling as a individual and declare your Vinted receipts on your tax notice (the amount normally appears automatically). The payment you will have to make will depend on your receipts and your reference tax income.

Declare yourself as aauto-entrepreneur and declare your turnover to URSAFF (12.8 % tax on your total turnover). This status is ideal for getting started, as the formalities are simplified. On the other hand, for a purchase/resale activity, it is preferable to opt for the sole proprietorship to deduct all your expenses, because with a micro-business, you pay tax on your turnover and not on your profits.

Opt for sole proprietorship with a corporation tax regime (new in 2023). The sole proprietorship will allow you to deduct your expenses, i.e. the cost of buying your products and any other expenses you incur: printing slips, buying a printer, a computer, products to renovate, etc. The first instalment of corporation tax is 15% on your turnover - expenses.

This status is much more attractive. However, you should consult a chartered accountant, as the procedures and accounting are less straightforward than with the auto-entrepreneur status. The examples given above are under the micro-enterprise scheme, i.e. at 12.8% on your turnover. All you have to do is change the tax percentage to 15% and calculate it on your profits.

Good to know: For transactions that you carry out by hand, instead of indicating that you have sold them, delete the advert. They will not be included in your Vinted sales figures, but you will not have the buyer's opinion.
