If you've already read my Resale buying guide on Vinted, You already know that you can easily generate income with this platform by buying and returning articles regularly. However, there's a little-known trick that allows you to generate even better margins (between 50 and 150 euros).
Renovation of leather goods: shoes, bags. Everything made of smooth leather.
Let's take a look at this trick.

Products to choose and those to avoid
Not all items can be "renovated".
You should go for bags and boots made from top-of-the-range leathers, simply because the leather is of much higher quality and the resale price is inevitably higher.
Here are some examples of brands to target for bags:
- Polene
- Lancaster
- Lancel
- Le Tanneur
- Jérôme Dreyfuss
- Nat & Nin
- Léo and Violette
- Tammy & Benjamin
- The Luggage Shop
- Texier
- Fossil
- Beetle
- Longchamp
- Michael Kors
- Coach
- Matt & Nat
- Rebecca Minkoff
- Liebeskind Berlin
- Lauren Ralph Lauren
- Radley London
Here is an example of brands to target for footwear:
- Jonak
- Bobbies
- Minelli
- Repetto
- Paraboot
- Veja
- Stephane Kélian
- Faguo
- Palladium
- Armistice
- Clarks
- Dr. Martens
- Vagabond
- Timberland
- Steve Madden
- UGG
- Aldo
- Cole Haan
- Kenneth Cole
- Hush Puppies
Defects to avoid:
For bags, make sure that the fastenings, handles and straps are in very good condition, not cracked or torn and functional. The leather may be discoloured, but it must not be torn. Only take smooth/croco leathers, as the turned-over leather of suede or nubuck bags cannot be renovated.
For shoes, pay particular attention to the sole and heel. You should only choose shoes/sneakers where the leather is discoloured, dirty or yellowed. Avoid all items where the leather is torn or where the shoes are simply no longer functional because the heel is too damaged or the sole has a hole in it.
Reminder of a tip mentioned in the buy and sell guide
When choosing which bags/shoes to renovate and when you think you've found a bargain, always look for the same model in very good condition to assess the resale price and possible margin.
As these products are less sought-after, you can take this time to compare prices.
Example with a Nat and Nin bag
The bag is a leather model originally sold by the brand for 190 euros. In addition, the seller mentions that the bag is in good condition, and we can see from the photos that the bag has a scratch above the brand logo and stains on the underside.

It's Camel in smooth crocodile leather. What's more, the price is low - 45 euros - and there's plenty of room for manoeuvre, as it went on sale over 6 months ago. In a similar case, don't hesitate to make an offer for 38 euros.
Before buying, we always check whether the same model is on sale in very good condition and at what price.
This is the same bag sold in very good condition:

The bag is on sale for 130 euros. It went on sale 6 weeks ago and 2 people have written to the seller. It also has 16 favourites.
All in all, this advert is very interesting because it tells us the name of the bag model - it's always a plus to put it in the advert - and it also gives us a price range for selling our renovated bag.
Negotiation and margin calculation
By negotiating a little for the first bag in good condition and assuming a total purchase price of 45 euros, we can determine the future selling price and work on the following assumptions 110 euros.
The margin will be :
115 euros - 45 euros = 70 euros
We also subtract the price of the product to buy to renovate, which I'll show you below (approximately 12 euros/number of uses = 20 times = 20/12 = 1.70 euros).
The final margin by selling it at the price of 115 euros will therefore be 68.30 euros.
Of course, this amount can be reduced if you see that the bag is not selling. So don't hesitate to lower the price a little and/or boost your product.
Once we're sure we can make a good margin, we can buy the bag and move on to the rest of the process. renovation.
Here are the photos of the bag after :

This bag sold out in 2 weeks for a total of 110 euros equivalent to a margin of 63.3 euros.
By carrying out ten or so similar transactions a month, you can easily obtain 600 euros margin.
